1967

International Expansion

1998

R-134a Platform Launch

Completed the industry transition from R-12 (CFC, ODP=1.0) to R-134a (HFC, ODP=0) across the full hermetic compressor range, ahead of the Montreal Protocol deadline.

2012

Inverter-Compatible Platform

Introduced first generation of inverter-compatible rotary compressors with PMSM motors, achieving IE4 efficiency class for variable-speed commercial air conditioning.

R-290 Propane Approval

TecumsehCool specializes in hermetic and semi-hermetic compressors within a defined capacity and application envelope. Understanding our product boundaries helps engineers identify when our platforms are the right fit.

  • Hermetic reciprocating compressors: 1/12 HP to 3 HP
  • Rotary compressors: 1/4 HP to 5 HP
  • Air-cooled condensing units: 1/3 HP to 6 HP
  • Refrigerants: R-134a, R-404A, R-290, R-600a, R-32, R-410A
  • Evaporating temperatures: -35 C to +15 C (single stage)

Outside Our Current Scope

  • Large-capacity screw compressors above 30 HP (for central plant chillers, contact specialized manufacturers)
  • Ammonia (R-717) compressor systems (industrial-scale cold storage and ice plants)
  • Centrifugal compressors for district cooling or large HVAC chillers above 200 TR
  • CO2 transcritical booster systems (available as custom OEM project only, not standard catalog)
